New Payment Models Should Favor mHealth

New health care payment models are starting to emerge as the Affordable Care Act (ACA) takes shape. These programs, such as the “patient centered medical home” are shifting away from the conventional fee-for-service model that has prevailed in the US. A system that pays for outcomes rather than office visits should make it easier for mobile health products to qualify for reimbursement by insurers.
